Clarify what Information Architecture is?
It is the structural design of shared information environments.
Information architecture is the practice of deciding how to arrange the parts of something to be understandable.
(1) Information architecture (IA) is a science of organizing and structuring content of the websites, web and mobile applications, and social media software.
(2) Information architecture aims at organizing content so that users would easily adjust to the functionality of the product and could find everything they need without big effort.
(3) The content structure depends on various factors.
For example, if we compare a retail website and a blog, we’ll see two absolutely different structures both efficient for accomplishing certain objectives.
(4) Information architecture has become the fundamental study in many spheres including design and software development.
(5) For that,we need to understand how the pieces fit together to create the larger picture, how items relate to each other within the system.
Main components of IA:
Organization Schemes and Structures: How you categorize and structure information
Labeling Systems: How you represent information
Navigation Systems: How users browse or move through information
Search Systems: How users look for information
Information architectures (IAs) are in the websites we use, the apps and software we download, the printed materials we encounter, and even the physical places we spend time in. A good IA helps people to understand their surroundings and find what they’re looking for – in the real world as well as online. Practicing information architecture involves facilitating the people and organizations we work with to consider their structures and language thoughtfully.
