Both are not the same. Crawling is the process of go through the newly made web pages and read the content and link and put them into the SE database for Indexing. And, Indexing is the another name of the SE database you can say.

Google can index without crawling. ... Crawling and indexing are two distinct things and this is commonly misunderstood in the SEO industry. Crawling means that Googlebot looks at all the content/code on the page and analyzes it. Indexing means that the page is eligible to show up in Google's search results.

Crawling is the process or reading through your webpage source by search engine spiders. They provide a cache certificate after a successful crawl. Indexing is updating the cached webpages in search engine database. Indexed webpages are now ready for search engine rankings.

    Crawling

In the SEO world, Crawling means “following your links”.

Crawling is the process through which indexing is done. Google crawls through the web pages and index the pages.

Crawling is a process which is done by search engine bots to discover publicly available web pages.

Crawling is simply when search engines bots are actively crawling your website.

    Indexing

Indexing is the process of “adding webpages into Google search”.

When search engine crawlers visit any link is crawling and when crawlers save or index that links in search engine database is called indexing.

Indexing means when search engine bots crawl the web pages and saves a copy of all information on index servers and search engines show the relevant results on search engine when a user performs a search query.

Indexing is the process of placing a page.
