  2. #2
Pogo-sticking is defined as going back and forth from a search engine results page (SERP) to an individual search result destination site. In other words, pogo-sticking is when the searcher clicks on a link on a SERP, sees that it's not what she is looking for, and immediately bounces off by hitting the back button

Pogo sticking is a user behavior pattern which is considered to be a negative signal for search engines.
It occurs when a user performs a search, clicks on a result, and clicks on a different result.

Pogo-sticking refers only to the latter cause of high bounce rates. Depending on the nature of your website, wikis for example, a high bounce rate may be a sign of success but pogo-sticking is never a good thing.
    Common Causes
Targeting terms that are irrelevant or too broad as well as poor website design can greatly contribute to pogo-sticking problems. If your website takes too long to load or has a confusing design searchers may simply give up and move on. Poorly designed landing pages with contradictory or confusing information can discourage searchers and invasive advertisements such as videos or presentations that autoplay on page load can be a great annoyance. Keep your landing pages focused and uncluttered; if you want to rank for more terms you will need to make more landing pages to satisfy those searchers.

A pogo stick is a device for jumping off the ground in a standing position, through the aid of a spring, or new high-performance technologies, often used as a toy, exercise equipment or extreme sports instrument. It led to an extreme sport named extreme pogo or "Xpogo". It consists of a pole with a handle at the top and footrests near the bottom, and a spring located somewhere along the pole. The spring joins two sections of the pole, which extends below the footpads.

Pogo sticking occurs when a user performs a search, clicks on a result, very quickly clicks back to the search result page, and clicks on a different result. This type of behavior is a direct result of immediate dissatisfaction in the search result, and unlike bounce rate pogo sticking is always a bad thing.

Pogo-sticking is characterized as returning and forward from a search engine results page (SERP) to an individual search result destination site. In other words, pogo-staying is the point at which the searcher taps on a connection on a SERP, sees that it's not what she is searching for, and immediately bounces off by hitting the back button.
