Recognize duplicate content on your website.
Determine your preferred URLs.
Be consistent on your website.
Apply 301 permanent redirects where necessary and possible.
Implement the rel=”canonical” link element on your pages where you can.

The basic way to find duplicate content is Google Webmaster Tools. Go to the Search Appearance section and click on HTML Improvements. If there are duplicates on your website, they'll be shown at Duplicate meta descriptions and Duplicate Title tags.
