Direct traffic can include visits that result from typing the URL directly into a browser, as the simple definition suggests. Organic traffic, on the other hand, are those visits which are tracked by another entity — usually because they have arrived through search engines — but also from other sources.

Organic traffic means the amount of traffic that you are getting from search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo etc. Whenever a user search for a particular keyword and lands on your page then it will be considered as an organic visit.

Referral traffic is the traffic you get from third party websites and links. If the user lands on your page from an unknown blog or a website or a forum then it will be considered as referral traffic.

Organic Traffic: Organic traffic is directly related to SEO. The incoming organic traffic increases with better ranking of your competitive keywords. Blogging, regular updates and optimizing your pages for your focus keywords will ensure a steady increase in your search traffic. This will also result in a better positioning. As a marketer, it is important to look at your keywords and identify new ranking opportunities each month.

Referral Traffic: To give you a very simple definition as I read on smallbussiness.chron.com - Referral traffic is Google's method of reporting visits that came to your site from sources outside of its search engine. When someone clicks on a hyperlink to go to a new page on a different website, Analytics tracks the click as a referral visit to the second site.

Organic traffic comes from the search engine, where referral traffic comes from different referral website or social media.

Organic traffic is the opposite of paid traffic, which defines the visits generated by paid ads. Referral traffic is Google's method of reporting visits that came to your site from sources outside of its search engine.
