A first and most important tip is to KEEP YOUR DATA UPDATED! Moreover, you can use SSL to encrypt I/O connections secure. Do not use nulled stuff!

    - Ensure that your core and plugins are up to date
    - have an offsite remote backup of your website. Never rely on Hosting provider backup system.
    - Always use FTPS or SFTP(SSH)

To handle Brute force attacks, wps-hide is a popular choice.

    - The rule thumb is to always keep everything up to date and to not use any insecure or non-popular plugins and themes.
    - Make sure your scripts/applications, plugins/extensions/modules and themes are all constantly updated to the latest stable
    version (Very Important).
    - Change all your passwords including cPanel, FTP etc.
    - Do not save any passwords in your web browser or FTP client.
    - Make a full virus scan of your computer and all other devices.
    - Make a full virus scan in your hosting account (Virus Scanner feature in cPanel).
    - Install an SSL certificate on your domain.

To improve the security, you may need to install an SSL certificate on your website so that you can prevent hackers from steeling the credit card information used on your website.

For enhancing the security, you can install any Web Application Firewall to avoid potential hacks and malicious code injections.

Always use complex FTP/SFTP and admin passwords for the website and change the passwords in regular intervals.

Do a daily/weekly backup for your website and also perform a routine malware scan on your web file to ensure safety of the website code. You can use some online web scanner to check this either.

Always do FTP/SFTP to the website from a virus free machine.
Do not save the website passwords in your browser.

Always make sure that your server is installed with a software firewall to prevent syn flood and DOS attacks toward the websites. Also ensure that the server is installed with any anti-bruteforce softwares to protect your website from brute force based attacks.
