Uptime is the time during which a website is fully operational( viewable and usable). Downtime is the time during which it’s not. Hosting companies give uptime guarantee in percentage. For example, any hosting provider offers a 99% guarantee; then, your website would be online 23.76 hours per day. In the rest of the time(0.24 hours), your site would be offline.

Uptime is a great measure of how good a web hosting provider is at keeping their services up and running.
Uptime is the amount of time that a service is available and operational. It is generally the most important metric for a website, online service or web-based provider.

Downtime is the amount of time that service remains unavailable and un-operational.

In web hosting,Uptime, put simply in the context of web hosting, is the time during which your site is fully operational (viewable and usable). Downtime, conversely, is the time during which it's not, and these figures are usually given in percentages.

    so if there is a downtime of 4 hours in a year then calculated as (8756 / 8760) x 100 = 99.95%

Downtime: is the average time that the website is offline, more the downtime more the Clients one would loose.
    Hmm, nice formula Thank you.

Downtime is the amount of time your website is offline. This means your site is offline and if your site is offline you can lose your ranking or many other things. Most of the companies mention 99.9% uptime. It means the site has the down time of 1.44 minutes per day.

Uptime can be said as the time for which the site is being in live state in your subscription duration

And Downtime is when you cant connect your site and it is not operational for a period of time
