Nofollow Link is exactly the opposite. It is a hyperlink that removes the ability to pass on it's page rank status to other sites.

No follow is a link attribute that instructs spiders not to crawl the particular backlink on the webpage. Hence these links are never indexed in search engines. They are only used to build traffic from various external webpages.

Nofollow Links are the links which doesn’t allow search engines bots to index the links. It means search engines bots can’t index your links if they find nofollow tags with your links. Only humans can follow the links. Nofollow Links are used to hide the website link from the search engines.

The noindex directive is a metatag that you add to certain pages on your website. This tag tells search engines to not add a specific page to their index. On the other hand, nofollow links tell search engines to not follow a particular link. So if you don't want a page indexed, a nofollow link isn't going to work.

When you add a link to any specific page, you can mention if you want the seach engine to follow that link or not. Usually done with rel=’nofollow’ tag in link. When you use the nofollow tag, you basically ask google search engine to not count this particular link as a back link.

Needless to say, such link does not pass on SEO juice like a follow link. Follow is the default and if you want to restrict search engine or advise them to not count or follow this link, then you have to exclusively use the rel=’nofollow’ tag.

So while assessing the back link profile of a particular website, if you find less number of nofollow link then you are doing well.
    Hope it helps!

Nofollow backlink does not pass the authority because the tag rel=”nofollow” in the HTML code of the website tells crawlers not to follow these backlinks. Google does not transfer the authority or anchor text across nofollow links.

Nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct search engines bots that a hyperlink should not influence the link target's ranking in the search engine's index. Nofollow links do not allow search engine bots to follow the link.
