What is sessions in google analytics?
A session is defined as a group of interactions one user takes within a given time frame on your website. Google Analytics defaults that time frame to 30 minutes. Meaning whatever a user does on your website (e.g. browses pages, downloads resources, purchases products) before they leave equals one session.
Google Analytics is used to track the number of visitors, pageviews, demographics, events and much more. It helps you in understanding your audience, tracking them and tweaking, optimising whats working for you.
Analytics is certainly a great product a Blogger/Web Master cannot live without.
There are three main things to be noted in Analytics:
Unique Visitors: Means even if a visitor visits your blog twice, thrice or every day in a certain selected time period, he will be counted only once.
Pageviews: When a visitor lands on a page of your blog/website, he/she might visit only that page and leave(known as bounce), or the visitor might browse more pages. The number of pages a visitor browses is knows as pageviews.
Sessions: If a same visitor visits your blog twice then it’s counted as a unique visitor and two sessions. That means lets suppose a visitor opens your blog once in the morning, once in afternoon and once in the evening. So, the total number of sessions is 3. Whereas, the unique visitor will only be 1.
