According to a survey conducted by Brafton, the average session duration was 2 minutes, 17 seconds, but that varied depending on whether the site was B2B, B2C or a hybrid. It also depended on the industry. For instance, the survey found the average time spent on healthcare websites was over three minutes.

    Hi Friends,
Google Analytics calculates time on site AFTER a user has clicked on another page on your site. If the user above had read your content for 10 minutes and then clicked to another page on your site, it would have registered as a 10 minute time on page. But since they didn’t take another action on your page, it counts as 0 seconds and a bounce.

Now, Google Analytics does take this into consideration when calculating the Average Time on Site by removing the Exit pages in that calculation:

Average Time on Page = Time on Page / ( Pageviews - Exits)

In Web analytics, including Google Analytics, average time on site is a type of visitor report that provides data on the amount of time (in minutes or seconds) visitors have spent on your website.

Time on site shows the level of involvement visitors have with your site. As such, it is an important metric for measuring website performance. 2 minutes is pretty impressive and anything between 1-2 minutes is on par for niche sites.

The average time on site is calculated using the formula:

Total time-on-site for multiple visitors / Total number of visitors.
