Sign up to the Google Partners scheme and get your AdWords certification. This will ensure you know how Google’s platform works which is a great start.
You’ll need a working knowledge of the web marketing process to make a success of PPC - what makes web users buy, website best practice etc. If you don't have this already I’d consider a junior role at an agency where you can learn your trade.
