When you buy domain name then you must view that what will be the extension like Top Level Domain (TLD) or Domain Extension. Make sure domain name is a key element of your website and it must be chosen wisely.

Choose a reliable domain registrar (like Hostinger).
Find a domain availability checker tool.
    Run a domain name search.
    Pick the best available option.
Finalize your order and complete the domain registration.
Verify the ownership of your new domain.

Anyone can buy a domain name. To do so, you visit a domain name registrar, such as GoDaddy or Namecheap, key in the domain you want to buy, and pay a fee. You can't buy just any domain, of course—only one that isn't already registered by another person or business and that bears a valid domain suffix.

There are many good domain provers such as GoDaddy and Bigrock. You need to search your desired domain address on their website, and they will provide you the best price available for your domain.

You need to first ask the question, why are you buying a domain name. Rather, what for? Is it a blog or a proper business site or a site which talks about an organization. This will narrow down your search for the TLD (top level domain) that you want to buy.

If you know that the site is a business website then go for a .COM. or if you know that getting a category specific (lets say your business is about tech), then get a .TECH or a .IO domain name. Or if it is a blog then get a .BLOG domain name. Fundamentally, stick to what your purpose is and then maybe say choose a decent provider for domains, like BigRock or some such which has decent support to guide you through.

Buying process is not that tough. You will need to visit the website of the provider, put ina domain name of your choice and understand the price of the domain name and pay the service provider. It will take 24 hours to 48 hours for your domain to get activated.

There are so many domain name registrars. Namecheap is who I've been using over the years. Mainly because I have had no real reason to switch.
