    SEO is Search Engine Optimization and SEM is Search Engine Marketing. SEO is the organic process to gain the organic traffic. While SEM is the paid process to having the right traffic.

    The main difference between SEM vs. SEO is that SEM is a paid strategy and SEO is an organic strategy. Like most things in the search industry, the definitions related to search marketing have evolved . Some marketers may consider SEM to be an umbrella term that includes both paid and organic strategies.

    Both SEO and SEM are all types of marketing. SEO requires both on-site and off-site optimization, requires a bit more time to rank for the right keywords while a bulk of SEM activity is done through Google's paid services.
