Referral traffic is Google's method of reporting visits that came to your site from sources outside of its search engine. When someone clicks on a hyperlink to go to a new page on a different website, Analytics tracks the click as a referral visit to the second site.

Visitors that come to your website from sites other than the major search engines are considered referral traffic. When someone clicks a link on a website or social network and is then taken to another site, tracking software, such as Google Analytics or HubSpot, counts that visitor as referral traffic

Referral traffic is Google's method of reporting visits that came to your site from sources outside of its search engine. When someone clicks on a hyperlink to go to a new page on a different website, Analytics tracks the click as a referral visit to the second site. The originating site is called a “referrer” because it refers to traffic from one place to the next. Referral traffic is one of three statistics tracked by Google Analytics. The others are Search traffic -- visits from a search engine -- and Direct traffic to a domain.

Referral is the traffic which get from different domains not from search engines. when we build backlinks for our website/blog we use multiple domains to divert traffic to our website. This traffic is called referral traffic.

Referral traffic is a term, that itself will describe the traffic which will come from other (Referral) websites rather than a user comes from direct search. When a user comes from other websites and clicks the links, tracking software like Google Analytics consider it as Referral Traffic.
