In an ordinary manner Firewall implies a divider or parcel intended to restrain or forestall the spread of fire. In registering way firewall is a divider and safeguard that shield an organization or framework from unapproved access by means of external.

Firewall is a security framework which shields the System from Intruders and programmers. It's anything but an organization security gadget that watches out for approaching and active traffic and stop and stoppage infections and malware to spread from one PC or sub net or organization to another.

There are 5 sorts of firewalls :

Bundle sifting firewall : Packet separating

firewalls work inline at intersection focuses where gadgets, for example, switches and switches manage their job.

Circuit-level entryway : Using another generally speedy approach to recognize malignant substance, circuit-level doors screen TCP handshakes and other organization convention meeting inception messages across the organization as they are set up between the neighborhood and distant hosts to decide if the meeting being started is real

Stateful examination firewall : State-mindful gadgets, then again, analyze every bundle, yet additionally monitor whether that parcel is important for a set up TCP or other organization meeting.

Application-level entryway (also known as intermediary firewall) : This sort of gadget - actually an intermediary and in some cases alluded to as an intermediary firewall

    - consolidates a portion of the traits of bundle separating firewalls with those of circuit-level passages.

Cutting edge firewall (NGFW) : A common NGFW consolidates parcel review with stateful assessment and furthermore incorporates some assortment of profound bundle examination, just as other organization security frameworks, like interruption

Firewall:-A firewall is nothing but a network security system that monitors and controls the incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules.

A firewall can be hardware, software, or both.

    Types of Firewall

Firewalls types can be divided into several different categories based on their general structure and method of operation.

    1.Packet Filtering Firewall

It is the most basic and oldest type of firewall architecture. Packet filtering firewalls operate inline at junction points where devices such as routers and switches do their work. And Packet filtering firewalls aren’t very resource-intensive. It means they don’t have a huge impact on the system performance and are relatively simple.

    2.circuit-level gateway Firewall

A circuit-level gateway is a type of firewall that provides session-level control over network traffic. Circuit-level gateway works by verifying the transmission control protocol(TCP) handshake. This TCP handshake check is designed to make sure that the session the packet is from is legitimate. And circuit-level gateways are host-based and reside on individual clients and servers inside the network, rather than on a dedicated machine as they do with other types of firewalls.

    3.Application-level gateways (a.k.a Proxy firewall)

Proxy firewalls operate at the application layer to filter incoming traffic between your network and the traffic source. So that’s why we called application-level gateway. And a proxy firewall is the most secure form of firewall because it prevents networks from directly contacting other systems. It has its own IP address, which means an external network connection cannot receive packets directly from the network. A proxy firewall that filters at the application layer provides considerable data security but can dramatically affect network performance and can be challenging to manage.

    4.Stateful inspection firewall

Stateful inspection is also known as dynamic packet filtering. A stateful inspection firewall is a technology that monitors the state of active connections and uses this information to determine which network packets to allow through the firewall. And in a firewall where the stateful inspection is implemented, the network administrator can customize the parameters in order to meet the unique needs of the organization.

    5.Next Generation firewall

A next-generation firewall is a network security device that provides capabilities beyond a traditional, stateful firewall. And a next-generation firewall is a part of the third generation of firewall technology that is implemented in either hardware or software and is capable of detecting and blocking sophisticated attacks by enforcing security policies at the application, port, and protocol levels.

These are the 5 basic types of firewalls.

Firewall provides security to your network from Brute force, DDOS and DOS, Malware, backdoors, local exploits and rootkits on server. Server administrator install firewall on server for the more security, one of the firewall is ConfigServer firewall which can be installed on server for security. If you are server admin and want to install ConfigServer Firewall then you have to follow few steps.

The firewall is a process that looks for signs of an attack if the network is being breached. It monitors signals from various traffic sources and may be alerted to an attack.

Steven Bellovin invented the word "firewall" to describe the process of filtering traffic between secure networks and the internet. He used the word as a metaphor, suggesting firewalls are like partitions to prevent a fire from spreading throughout a building. A firewall does this by filtering incoming and outgoing traffic and only allowing certain things to pass.

Along the way, firewalls have been transformed into different types of firewalls in response to the evolution of digital threats.

There are five types of firewalls: Network, Host, Anti-malware, Application, and Other. However, it doesn't matter how many different types there are because they each do something different. In addition, the specific number isn't essential because enterprises need more than one type of firewall to protect their systems.

    Five types of firewall include:
    • packet filtering firewall
    • circuit-level gateway
    • application-level gateway (aka proxy firewall)
    • stateful inspection firewall
    • next-generation firewall (NGFW)

Firewalls are like the superheroes of computer networks. They act as a safety net to protect your data from malicious content and unauthorized access. Firewalls work by monitoring incoming and outgoing traffic, looking for suspicious activity, and blocking threats before they can cause any damage. Firewalls use clever algorithms and software to identify malicious content and keep your data safe.

    Types of Firewalls:-

    1. packet filtering firewalls
    2. application layer firewalls
    3. stateful inspection firewalls
    4. proxy servers

A firewall is a network security device that monitors and filters incoming and outgoing traffic based on predefined security rules. It acts as a barrier between an internal network and the public Internet, controlling access and preventing unauthorized access to the network.

There are several types of firewalls, including:

Packet-filtering firewall: This type of firewall examines each packet of data that passes through it and filters them based on specific criteria such as IP address, port number, and protocol type. Packet-filtering firewalls are the simplest and most common type of firewall.

Stateful inspection firewall: This type of firewall keeps track of the state of network connections and filters traffic based on the context of the traffic flow. It allows traffic that is part of an established connection while blocking traffic that is not.

Application-level gateway firewall: This type of firewall examines the data within packets and filters traffic based on specific applications. It can monitor and control traffic to specific applications, such as web browsing or email.

Next-generation firewall: This type of firewall combines several different types of filtering techniques, including packet filtering, stateful inspection, and application-level gateway filtering. It can also incorporate intrusion detection and prevention systems, anti-virus software, and other security technologies.

As for user connecting way, a firewall typically operates transparently, meaning that users are not aware of its presence or how it works. Users connect to the network as usual, and the firewall filters traffic behind the scenes. However, in some cases, the firewall may block certain types of traffic or restrict access to specific websites or services. In these cases, the user may need to configure the firewall to allow the desired traffic or to request that the network administrator make the necessary changes.
