However, search engines handle these types of URL redirects differently - the 302 redirect means that the page has been moved temporarily and other, 301, means that a new page has taken over permanently

The wrong redirect can cause a loss of traffic to that specific webpage or many pages on your site.

301 is a permanent redirect, one should opt for in below condition:

    Change in Domain
    Change in URL
In these situations, you can do the 301 permanent redirects. If you want to change your domain from for e.g. .in to .com then 301 redirect (Domain to Domain) is for you.

If you are planning to change or URL re-write then you need to perform 301 redirect page to page.

302 is a temporary redirect - When you are planning to keep the page as it is but have planned to update the content or to add any new features or tool then in that you perform 302 temporary redirect, which means you are letting search engines know that the page which search engines are looking for is still there but temporary it has been removed.

You would use this type of redirect if you want to send users to a new site or page for a short period of time, such as when you're redesigning or updating your website. You only use a 302 if you're planning on eventually bringing the old page back.

If you need to change the URL of a page as it is shown in search engine results, we recommend that you use a server-side 301 redirect. This is the best way to ensure that users and search engines are directed to the correct page. The 301 status code means that a page has permanently moved to a new location.
