This is not the same for all websites, but according to Matt Cutts, is determined primarily based on the PageRank of a page. The higher the PageRank, the greater the crawl budget. The crawl budget also determines how often the most important pages of a website get crawled and how often an in-depth crawl is executed.

The better a crawl budget is optimized to index a page the higher it will rank on Google. It is crucial to make sure that if you have a large site, specifically eCommerce, or have added a lot of pages or have a lot of redirected pages that you have the crawl budget capacity to handle it. This should not be a huge concern, however, as Google crawls indexed pages efficiently but it is certainly something to be aware of.

Crawl budget is the number of pages Google will crawl on your site on any given day. This number varies slightly from day to day, but overall, it's relatively stable. Google might crawl 6 pages on your site each day, it might crawl 5,000 pages, it might even crawl 4,000,000 pages every single day.

Crawl budget is a term invented by the SEO industry to indicate a number of related concepts and systems that search engines use when deciding how many pages, and which pages, to crawl. It's basically the attention that search engines will give your website.

Because they don’t have unlimited resources, and they divide their attention across millions of websites. So they need a way to prioritize their crawling effort. Assigning crawl budget to each website helps them do this.

You want search engines to find and understand as many as possible of your indexable pages, and you want them to do that as quickly as possible. When you add new pages and update existing ones, you want search engines to pick these up as soon as possible. The sooner they’ve indexed the pages, the sooner you can benefit from them.

If you’re wasting crawl budget, search engines won’t be able to crawl your website efficiently.
