Is there a way to know competitor's backlink profile?

Yes almost all the top industry tools provide a way to find out the backlink profile of a competitor, like ahrefs, semrush, ubbersuggest etc. Let me explain how you can do it in ahrefs. Go to site explorer option. Write down the URL of the competitor in bar and you can get the complete overview of your competitor along with their backlink profile. The backlink profile is very comprehensive in Ahrefs. It includes along with all the backlinks, broken backlinks, internal backlinks, link intersect, referring domain and what not. you can filter out the backlinks based on anchors also. Just try it out.
