TLD is the acronym used for top-level domain. It’s the last segment of a domain name after the final dot.

A great example of a TDL is: .com

The IANA officially recognizes three types of TLDs:

    gTLD – Generic Top-Level Domains
    sTLD – Sponsored Top-Level Domains
ccTLD – Country Code Top-Level Domains
Your TLD plays an important role in the Domain Name System (DNS).

You can change your WordPress site’s TDL by taking advantage of 301 redirect.

A TLD (top-level domain) is the most generic domain in the Internet's hierarchical DNS (domain name system). A TLD is the final component of a domain name, for example, "org" in developer.mozilla.org . ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) designates organizations to manage each TLD.

A top-level domain (TLD), also referred to as a domain extension, is the suffix that follows the domain name in a web address; the most widely-used is ".com". TLDs are managed by the Domain Name System of the Internet, which controls how domain names are translated into Internet Protocol, or IP, addresses.

A top-level domain is a part of a website URL that comes after your primary domain name. It is usually called a domain name extension. For example: .com in AEserver.com.

However, the internet is expanding so does the need for unique domains. That's why ICANN introduced new options for domain extensions to make it easy for the users to find the site they wanted.

There are over thousands of TLDs available besides the most recognized .com. There were initially the following seven top-level domains when the web address launched.

.com: it is the most common open domain for commercial business. While the .com domain is originally made for profitable organizations, restrictions on this are not stringent.

You should always choose a .com extension if it's available.

.net: it is an open address just like .com. Originally created for internet service providers and infrastructure companies. Restrictions on this are limited.

.net can be a great option for tech or web-based organizations as it implies network and technology.

.org: it is also an open TLD originally designed for non-profit organizations but now can be used by anyone, including profit organizations, non-governmental organizations, schools, online communities, and political parties.

You can find your desired domain with this extension as it is less popular than .com but has a lot of SEO benefits the same as .com.

.edu: short for education. It is made for educational institutions mostly used by universities everywhere in the world.

.mil: short for the military. This TLD is only available to services and agencies of the US department of defense.

.gov: short for the government. A TLD restricted for US government agencies

A top level domain (TLD) is a unique identifier for a certain type of website. There are more than 250 TLDs in operation, including .com, .net, and .org. All websites must have a corresponding TLD registered with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). TLDs are often used to make website addresses more memorable or easier to spell.

A TLD, or Top-Level Domain, is the part of a domain name that comes after the final dot in a website's address. For example, in the domain name "www.example.com," the ".com" is the TLD. It essentially serves as an identifier that signifies the purpose or location of the website.

There are different types of TLDs. Some are generic, like ".com" (which is often used for commercial websites), ".org" (commonly used by organizations), and ".net" (originally meant for network-related entities). In recent years, many new generic TLDs have emerged, such as ".xyz," ".online," and others.

Additionally, there are country-specific TLDs, which are referred to as country code TLDs or ccTLDs. These TLDs are assigned to specific countries or territories, such as ".us" for the United States, ".ca" for Canada, and ".uk" for the United Kingdom.

The management of TLDs, particularly the generic ones, falls under the responsibility of ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which ensures that the domain name system functions globally.

If you'd like to know more about how TLDs work or specific examples, feel free to ask!

TLD means Top Level Domain, and it’s a category of domain names that is controlled by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
