I think off page backlinks are the most important ones you do not have control over. If you can not change links than you have no control. If you make a wordpress blog and write about site you have backlinks you can control same goes for signatures and some directories and social book marks.

You can control page authority if you make sure to only get links from sites related to your topic and Domain Authority somewhat .

Google Algorithm Updates only google has control over that. If you do proper seo it should effect you less than some other sites.

For any online business, the factors that don't directly impact your ranking in search results can have a big impact on your overall performance. The following are some of the things that affect your rankings indirectly. -Inbound links: These links point back to your site and act as votes of confidence. Any time you receive a high quality link, this will improve your rankings. -Social signals: Sharing, tweeting, pinning, likes and +1's all improve your rankings in Google search results. -Internal site links: Proper internal linking helps Google discover new pages quickly and efficiently without redirects or messy URLs. In addition to improving your overall user experience, good internal links can also help make it easier for Google to find and feature new pages for you in its search results by helping them crawl and index them correctly.
