What is the BERT Algorithm?
Bert stands for Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers. It is a neural network-based technique for Natural Language Processing (NLP) that was open-sourced by Google last year.
Google is basing its latest algorithm update on a technique/tool created last year called “Bert.”
“Bert” stands for Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers — yes, that’s a mouthful, so we’re going to keep calling it by the acronym.
Without completely boring you with digital marketing jargon, “Bert” uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to understand your search queries by focusing on the natural language and not just choosing main keywords.

BERT is a new neural network that is trained to predict arbitrary combinations of features (strings) in a sequence. It is particularly good at capturing the increasingly long and variable length of human language, which has to be captured almost completely with recurrent neural networks over long sequences. In addition, BERT is trained to predict whole sentences instead of just words. Thanks to this feature, we can finally automatically identify the relations between words with more accuracy than ever before.
BERT, or Biodirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers, allows Google’s AI to understand the context of an entire sentence rather than analyzing and matching keywords to search results alone. The advancements in NLU, natural language understanding, are impressive to say the least. Through artificial comprehension, BERT amplifies Google’s ability to match users with the content that they are looking for in a way that more direct and accurate than ever before.
