If your website is a source of income for you then you should definitely go for paid hosting. With paid hosting you get reliability, good support, guaranteed uptime and other features. While in case of free hosting, the hosting company can close at anytime without notice and you cannot get all these services and features since you are not paying for their service.

I also suggest you paid hosting because the support ,reliabilty and uptime are the important factor which you get under paid hosting. There are many other feature too which you are not able to get under free hosting(because of costly software) but get under paid one easily.

The free hosts, need to find a form of revenue, so they usually put ads on your website if you host with them...

Yeah, the free hosts put up an advertisement either in the form of text link, banner or pop ups on the websites. Many users find these ads take away from the design of their sites and also these ads sometimes are very annoying to the visitors.

Having ads, you don't have control over, makes your website looks unprofessional. Most free hosts allow you to upgrade to paid hosting, which doesn't force any ads on your web pages.

Any how, you have to go for paid hosting if you want to join the market professionally, at your own conditions.

For the websites that have long-term targets paid hosting is the best option.

If you will be running a serious website or a business website, choice should be paid hosting of course. But if you are only looking for a place that you can practice web design etc., you may choose free hosting as well.

It mostly depends on your intentions and budget of course.

Free hosting can help people test their web sites until they decide to turn their websites into serious businesses, or until they need serious hosting service.

Very good point, free hosting can be very helpful for website testing purposes. Also if you have created your personal site just for fun, free webhosting will be a good option but if it's a source of income for you then you should go for paid hosting.

Paid! It definately worth it. You get more flexibility, your not limited just html or php only in safe mode, etc. Plus you get support and with the good paid host they often have live chat or toll free phone support.
