What is better for companies? SEO or SEM?

Hello members,
Kindly anybody tell me, what is better for companies for more business or leads?
SEO gives tops ranking but not so much conversion while SEM gives traffic. Suggest more points.

As per my knowledge SEO is part of SEM. SEM covers a large field including SEO, Advertising , SMO and all those things which we can do as a internet marketer.

Both have their own importance. It depends, if company want instant leads and ready to invest more then SEM is best but for long term business leads in small investment, SEO is best.
