Nofollow links are links with a rel=”nofollow” HTML tag applied to them. The nofollow tag tells search engines to ignore that link. Because nofollow links do not pass PageRank they likely don't impact search engine rankings. The nofollow value for the rel link attribute is used to signal to search engines that they shouldn't follow these links and therefore shouldn't pass any link authority to the link target. Google in particular may, however, choose to ignore this and follow the link and/or pass on link authority.

If it comes down to getting one or having one versus not, always go with. If it is a great website and even though it is No=Follow why not right ? I'd take 100 of those if they were easy enough as opposed to not having them. I figure if you have 100 of them and a competitor does not, you are better off, even if its by a slight margin.
No-follow links from high authority sites, help to drive quality traffic as well as help to pass the link juice.

Nofollow links are useful in SEO to prevent passing link equity, manage spam, and maintain a natural backlink profile. They’re ideal for user-generated content or sponsored links.
A "nofollow" link tells search engines not to pass any link authority or "link juice" to the linked page. It's useful in SEO for controlling which links influence your site's rankings, especially for paid ads, user-generated content, or untrusted sources.
A nofollow link instructs search engines not to pass link authority to the linked site. In SEO, it helps prevent spam, maintain a natural link profile, and manage outbound links without affecting rankings. It is suitable for blog comments and sponsored content.
Some of them are useful. For instance, if Google News recommend your article and add it into google news website, even though it is nofollow backlink, it still can drive a thousand of traffic and let people know you/your business.
A nofollow link is an HTML attribute (rel="nofollow") used to tell search engines not to pass link equity (ranking power) from one website to another. This means that while users can still click and follow the link, search engines generally do not count it as a ranking factor for SEO.
Uses of Nofollow Links in SEO:
Prevents Passing Link Juice
Useful when linking to untrusted or paid content (e.g., advertisements or sponsored posts).
Controls Outbound Links
Helps prevent spam and maintains the quality of your website by avoiding association with low-quality or irrelevant sites.
Prevents Link Manipulation Penalties
Google penalizes unnatural link-building tactics. Using nofollow for paid links keeps your site safe from such penalties.
Helps with Crawl Budget Optimization
Search engines might spend less time crawling unimportant external links, allowing them to focus on more valuable pages.
Diversifies Your Link Profile
A natural backlink profile consists of both dofollow and nofollow links, making your site look more organic.
Where to Use Nofollow Links?
Paid advertisements
Affiliate links
User-generated content (comments, forums)
Links to untrusted sites
Social media profile links
Even though nofollow links don’t pass direct SEO value, they can still bring traffic, brand awareness, and even indirect SEO benefits when users share or mention your content elsewhere.
Nofollow links, indicated by the rel="nofollow" attribute, signal to search engines not to follow or pass authority from the linking page to the linked page, but they can still be valuable for SEO by diversifying your backlink profile, driving traffic, and building brand awareness. For more info visit our website kautilyam.com
