    IDS is Intrusion Detection system

There are many types of IDS
1.Network IDS:-Network IDS will Generally Capture all Traffic on the network
2.Host IDS:-Host will Capture Traffic for Individual Host

IDS detects attempted attacks using Signatrue and Patterns much like an Anti Virus App will.

Anti Virus - will Capture attempted Infections of Files or email, the general infection will be a trojan and or Virus or Malware, generally use a AV scanner plus Spyware or Malware scanner

    Firewall

Generally but not limited to a Perimeter of a Network, Firewalls can be Sophisticated or not depending on Config and features.

Firewall will scan TCP/IP packets based on Source and Destination then check again a list ( ACL ) and block/Allow traffic accordingly, some firewalls can provide Layer 7 Traffic Scaning ( Deep Packet Inspection) for instance rules can be setup for Applications,
Some Firewalls like ASA can have IDS/AV intergrated depending on model.

The prime job of an anivirus is protect your system from computer viruses. Your computer may be standalone or part of network or connected to Internet you need an antivirus program

IDS we mean a system that will be in charge of monitoring the behavior of a network to detect and report any unauthorized intrusions, which can affect the integrity of the network. There is also the IPS, a very similar tool that detects intrusions but also has the ability to block or prevent access after its detection.

Additionally, antivirus solutions will allow detections of malicious code. A good antivirus solution must also detect when a file has some kind of malicious behavior to disallow execution, and thus prevent damage or theft of information.

Finally, a firewall is a security tool that lets you control network traffic. They generally filter network traffic between the Internet and a particular device, and can operate in two different ways: allowing all network packets and only blocking some considered suspect; or by denying all packets, only allowing those that are considered necessary.

IDS/IPS devices and software scan network PACKETS, network traffic. ... IDS and IPS are usually network devices that inspect network packets. While an anti-virus program is a piece of software that inspects malicious files on a host device. For the most part, both use the concept of signature-based databases.

best antivirus solution or the most expensive firewall could be useless if users are not careful about the information they provide on the Internet, or the passwords they are using. Responsible use of the information and devices will allow working environments to be more productive with different technologies in a safer way.
