Dead or “broken” pages are webpages that either do not contain any content or are no longer valid. These invalid pages return a 404 error to the user when a user clicks on them. The broken links on a page do not lead the user or search engine anywhere useful because the page does not exist on the web. Therefore, these broken links have no value and should be found and “cleaned out” from your site.

Broken link checker helps to find the broken links, it also gives option to remove those Broken links, one by one.

You can call broken link as a dead link. In this the web page or a content is no longer available in search engine. Such page are contain error no 404. You can remove this broken links by doing 301 redirect with those 404 web page URL.

You can either redirect the broken links to relevant pages or you can remove it using url removal tools in GWT and block it via robots.txt.

Once you have signed up for Google Webmaster Tools and have set it up and verified your site, here is the method for finding invalid pages.
1. Simply click on Diagnostics from the left menu and select Crawl Errors.
2. Choose the Not Found category.
3. If available, click to view which page consists of the broken link.
4. To make sure that the URL is indeed indexed in Google, copy and paste the URL into Google’s search and see if any result comes up.

there are various ways to remove broken link from website
1.first of all check broken link from use of siteliner tools
2.if broken link can remove easy way then remove
3. block broken link from robots.txt
4. redirect broken link use of .htaccess
