What is difference between http and https ?
HTTPS is a communications protocol for secure communication over a computer network, with especially wide deployment on the Internet. Technically, it is not a protocol in and of itself; rather, it is the result of simply layering the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) on top of the SSL or TLS protocol, thus adding the security capabilities of SSL/TLS to standard HTTP communications.

Hi!
HTTP or Hyper Text Transfer Protocol is the primary technology on the web that allows linking and browsing while HTTPS or Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure that primarily develop with secure and safe internet transaction.
Hope it helps!
I completely agree with all of you, thanks for sharing this nice information.
Instead of HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP), this website uses HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS). Using HTTPS, the computers agree on a "code" between them, and then they scramble the messages using that "code" so that no one in between can read them.
HTTP and HTTPS, both are the transaction protocols used on the web. But todays most of the websites used the HTTPS because it provides safe and Secure internet connection. With HTTPS if anyone in between the sender and the recipient could open the message, they still could not understand it. Only the sender and the recipient, who know the "code" can decrypt (human readable form) the message. That's why most of the website uses HTTPS Instead of HTTP for security reasons.
HTTPS, which stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, makes it more difficult for hackers, the NSA, and others to track users. The protocol makes sure the data isn't being transmitted in plain-text format and is going in complicated form.
In HTTP, URL begins with “HTTP”
whereas URL starts with “https”
HTTP uses port number 80 for communication and HTTPS uses 443
HTTP is considered to be un-secure and HTTPS is secure
HTTP Works at Application Layer and HTTPS works at Transport Layer
In HTTP, Encryption is absent and Encryption is present in HTTPS as discussed above
HTTP does not require any certificates and HTTPS needs SSL Certificates
HTTP is unsecured while HTTPS is secured. HTTP sends data over port 80 while HTTPS uses port 443. HTTP operates at application layer, while HTTPS operates at transport layer. No SSL certificates are required for HTTP, with HTTPS it is required that you have an SSL certificate and it is signed by a CA.
