Migrating your email data between different platforms or accounts can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. If you're an Apple Mac user and you've been using Outlook for Mac (OLM) as your email client, you might find yourself in a situation where you want to move your data to an Office 365 account. Whether you're switching to a new workplace or simply prefer the features and benefits of Office 365, the good news is that the process to import OLM to Office 365 account is manageable.
To successfully import OLM data into your Office 365 account, follow these steps:
Step 1: Export OLM Data
Before you can import your OLM data into Office 365, you'll need to export the data from Outlook for Mac in the OLM format. Here's how to do it:
Open Outlook for Mac on your computer.
Click on "File" in the top menu.
Select "Export."
Choose "Outlook for Mac Data File (.olm)" as the export format and click "Next."
Select the items you want to export, such as emails, contacts, and calendar events. You can choose to export all items or specific folders.
Click "Next" and choose a location to save the OLM file.
Click "Save" to start the export process. Depending on the size of your mailbox, this process may take some time.
Step 2: Connect to Office 365
Now that you have your OLM file, you need to connect to your Office 365 account.
Open a web browser and go to the Office 365 login page (https://login.microsoftonline.com/).
Sign in with your Office 365 account credentials.
Step 3: Prepare Office 365 for Import
To import your OLM data, you need to prepare your Office 365 account:
In Office 365, go to the Admin Center. If you don't have admin access, ask your organization's administrator for assistance.
Navigate to "Setup" and then "Data migration."
Click on "Import PST files" and select "New Import Job."
Name your import job and click "Next."
Step 4: Upload the OLM File
On the "Upload your data" page, select "Show network upload SAS URL." You'll see a URL generated for your import job.
Copy the SAS URL to your clipboard.
Use a tool like AzCopy or a similar utility to upload the OLM file to the URL. This is typically done via the command line. The command would look something like this:
AzCopy.exe /Source:C:\PathToYourOLMFile /Dest:<Your SAS URL> /V:<Your SAS Token>
Once the upload is complete, return to the Office 365 import job page and click "Next."
Step 5: Validate Mapping and Start the Import
On the "Set the migration key" page, click "Next."
Verify the mapping of your OLM data to your Office 365 account. Make sure that your OLM data is correctly matched with the corresponding Office 365 mailboxes.
Click "Save" to validate the mapping.
Finally, click "Start the import" to begin the migration process. The time it takes to complete the import depends on the size of your OLM file.
