It is quite simple. If your website is targeted for international traffic: go for .com or .net extension in most cases. If it is an organization go for .org. If it is a purely informative website go for .info.

If you are targeting a certain continent or country, you can go for regional domains like, .asia, .in, .co.uk etc.

Avoid number and hyphens, keep it short and use appropriate extensions preferably try to get extension of your country name like for Pakistan, it should end at .pk

As sriki_zh informed you, yes it is really simple just choose the region of the traffic your are going to target and that is how you chose the TLD, after that you need to keep it as simple as you can. Try to say in one word the services your site or company are going to provide and try to play a little with the words while you check the whois to see what is available.
After that try to make a top5 out of it, and keep the one you like the most.

it is better to use single word in your domain. like your business is of fashion industry than for an example,
    fashion.com
    clothes.com

are preferred as they can be rememberred easily. Short domain names of max 8 characters with .com are preferred.

    1. Choose between your company name and a keyword rich online domain.
    2. Keep it simple.
    3. Avoid uncommon top-level domain names.
    4. Protect your business brand.
