DNS is short for Domain Name System, and this system translates domain names into IP addresses and controls email delivery. It's very hard for us to remember complex IP addresses but DNS has made it possible for us to use domain names instead of IP addresses.

DNS is a sort of like the white pages directory of the internet. When you put a domain name into your browser, DNS does the directory lookup to seek to which server the domain is indicated and what its IP address is and then it responds by showing the site you requested.

The Domain Name System (DNS) can be used to solve human-readable hostnames to IP addresses. Additionally, it provides details regarding domains.

Domain Name Servers (DNS) are the web equal to a phone book. They maintain directories of domain names and translate them to IP addresses.

The Domain Name System (DNS) is the phonebook of the Internet. Humans access information online through domain names, like nytimes.com or espn.com. Web browsers interact through Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. DNS translates domain names to IP addresses so browsers can load Internet resources.

The Domain Name System (DNS) is one of the foundations of the internet, yet most people outside of networking probably don’t realize they use it every day to do their jobs, check their email or waste time on their smartphones.

Web browsers interact through Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. DNS translates domain names to IP addresses so browsers can load Internet resources.

Each device connected to the Internet has a unique IP address which other machines use to find the device. DNS servers eliminate the need for humans to memorize IP addresses such as 192.168.1.1 (in IPv4), or more complex newer alphanumeric IP addresses such as 2400:cb00:2048:1::c629:d7a2 (in IPv6).

DNS (Domain Name System) is known as a hierarchical decentralized naming system for computers, services, or other resources connected to the Internet or a private network. It helps to maintain a directory of domain names and translate them to Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.

DNS, or Domain Name System, is like the phonebook of the internet.
It translates human-readable domain names (like www.example.com) into IP addresses (like 192.0.2.1), which computers use to identify each other on the network.
