Imagine you have a big cake in front of you and five other individuals.

You are to share the cake among five individuals

You can either divide the cake into 5 equal portions where each portion is given to an individual (VPS Hosting).

    OR

You simply allow them to keep taking a piece of the cake until it finishes (Shared Hosting).

VPS gives you more control and access to more resources compared to shared hosting....

On shared hosting your account is hosted with other accounts, this means that the available resources on that server are split and shared between all accounts on that server. The VPS server is Virtual Private Server and on this server only you will be able to add other accounts and manage their resource limits. All the available resources that are included in your VPS plans will be used only for your account and other accounts that you will create.

Shared hosting is the cheapest option but comes with limited bandwidth, administration and performance capabilities as the server resources are shared with other sites. VPS hosting offers greater customization and increased performance, but as it is a premium service, you will have to pay more.

    Hello,
I will tell you the actual meaning and difference for shared and vps hosting.
In shared hosting you will share the hosting space in server and in vps hosting you will be given some private space in server which no one able to access your space in the server. I hope you understand very well.

    1. The security.
Shared hosting means that you share a single server with dozens or hundreds of sites. Your website is easily threatened if other sites are hacked. VPS hosting doesn't exsit this kind of risk.

    2. The performance of website.
If you host your site on shared hosting, you are allocated a limited resource. However, VPS hosting offers a virtualized server with dedicated CPU, memory, and more. So needless to say, the performance of website on VPS is better than the one on shared hosting.

    3. The customization of server configuration
Shared hosting offers a default server configuration, you don't allow to modify system files. But hosting on VPS, you have full control to manage any server configuration.

    Virtual private server (VPS) Hosting

Virtual Private Server hosting is more powerful than shared hosting, since everyone gets a nice private virtual server each. So technically, you get a nice chunk of server space etc for yourself. That’s a nice step up from the shared hosting option.

So even though technically you’re on the same physical machine as others, you have your own little space – so no sharing with others. This usually means a better performance and faster loading speeds.

    Shared Hosting-

Shared hosting is one of the most common and popular forms of Web hosting service. It is generally provided by Web hosting service providers, which usually have multiple Web servers on-site. Upon signup with the provider, each website’s logical partition/space is created on the Web server, which houses data for that website only. Other websites are also present on the same Web server, simultaneously sharing the storage, computing power, network and other resources. Because it is a shared service, shared hosting is a cheaper alternate to dedicated hosting.

Shared hosting is recommended for websites that are smaller in size, don’t have a large amount of Web traffic, have considerably lower security concerns and require cost-effective solutions for website hosting.

Shared Hosting: In this type of hosting a large number of users have their account on the same physical server. I prefer to Host IT Smart for Shared Hosting or Linux hosting both are same.

VPS Hosting: it supports higher online traffic and more control like a dedicated server but only at a fraction of the cost of dedicated hosting.

Shared Hosting: People who are considered regarding their budget, they often take shared hosting. Shared hosting because the name implies sharing. It could be a reasonable hosting procedure that gives you space for websites. It happens once one shares a specific server with alternative customers. Shared websites do share a similar software system and additional operating system. It's very low-cost and shared hosting is admittedly good for the start-ups for their business. If you've got the restricted budget you'll simply choose shared computing device hosting and you'll gain many edges out of it.

VPS Hosting: is that the abbreviation style of Virtual Private Server. The foremost vital concept of VPS server hosting is it offers you with the independence of employing a personal server. You get complete management of the premise access systems and plenty of. VPS is mainly for the people those who have started a brand new business. With the assistance of VPS, you will design your own VPS if you'd like. This method of web host is in trend and lots of people purchase VPS hosting for the sake of cheaper price and independence.

Most shared hosting plans are managed up to a level - that means that the system administrator will keep the system running, make constant updates and ensure security. As for a VPS - you need to manage it yourself.
Resource wise - a VPS has greater resources allocated and you have control to distribute them as you wish. A dedicated space on a dedicated server; whereas a shared hosting account will place you with lots of other users, on the same IP. Just like another user said in a comment: like a cake it depends on how much you need.
    Best of luck!

    Hi

When I purchase hosting the first time I got confused which type of hosting should I buy Shared one VPS, SO I figure out answer of this question I think this might help you.

Shared hosting is a lot like living in an apartment building with a courtyard, garden or pool that is also used by your neighbors. With this type of web hosting, you share the same physical server with other businesses or users. There is no reason to be concerned, though. No one using the server is able to see what others have on it. With shared hosting, you simply share some of the physical resources with other users.

VPS hosting is a Virtual Private Server, and is a virtualized server. A VPS hosting environment mimics a dedicated server within a shared hosting environment. It is technically both shared hosting and dedicated hosting.

VPS Hosting is one of several types of web hosting accounts you can choose from to host your website online. To have a website on the internet, you need to have your website files on a web server.

Let me know if you have still any issue on both hosting.

With a VPS, you receive all the power of dedicated hosting with the ability to have your own set of services and customizable disk space. With shared hosting, you have limited administrative access and can't customize software configurations, while with a VPS you can perform any actions from your control panel and don't need to contact technical support with every single request which can't be performed if you have Shared Hosting.

In shared hosting you cannot change or modify any applications configuration and functioning atmosphere. BUT using VPS you are able to configure your personal surroundings and software. Its liberty with VPS but necessitates system admin knowledge to keep your VPS.

Earlier servers were so expensive that most people couldn't afford it. So the idea of sharing the costs and hence the "Shared hosting" was born.

It's 2019 now. Technology has advanced and computers have become super powerful and cheap. If you're just starting now, I would suggest you to at least go for VPS.

Having said that it's not neccessary that Shared hosting is bad or useless in 2017. It has its own benefits. But if you're opting for shared hosting just because you don't know linux is just like not exercising just because you're fat.

With so much online tutorials available online (DigitalOcean itself has its own community filled with all sorts of tutorials), it's easy to learn it.

VPS hosting is similar to living in a single-residence home or a duplex that requires you to maintain your own space. The responsibility is entirely yours, but you have the benefit of being able to customize the space however you see fit.

The Difference Between Shared and VPS Hosting in a Nutshell
Simply put, shared hosting means your site will share the same server as many other sites. It's usually the cheapest option but comes with limited bandwidth, administration, and performance capabilities.
