Meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page's content; the meta tags don't appear on the page itself, but only in the page's code. We all know tags from blog culture, and meta tags are more or less the same thing, little content descriptors that help tell search engines what a web page is about.

A meta tag is an HTML tag (part of the HTML specification) that goes into the <head></head> tag of the HTML document.

You can observe many Meta tags being used in HTML coding, but the important ones are the four Meta tags. They are: Meta Title, Meta Keywords, Meta Description and Robot tags.

Meta Tag helps webmaster to provide information about their website to Search Engine (Google). Meta tags are added to the <head> section of HTML page.
The Three Commonly known are below:
Meta Title: One of the most important meta tag is Meta Title. This is the text that you'll see at the top of your browser. When You give title to your page in <head> that means you are giving meta Title
Meta Description: This tag gives a short description of the page which helps search engines and searchers to understand the page is about.
Meta Keywords: Area where webmaster includes all keywords used over that page. But years ago google devalued Meta Keyword Tag Due to keywords Stuffing
