Duplicate content is same content on two or more pages or websites. This is very bad for SEO optimisation.

in terms of SEO duplicate does not means copied from other websites because contents may be a kind of same on different resources and you will not be penalized for this, but you may not rank inn Google if the original is ranking and Google will think that both are similar and there no point of showing two website with same content for one user.
But, if you have duplicate content o same domain means same content on multiple pages, then Google will penalize your website and that could be severe. I hope the duplicate concept is clear to everyone as I have seen many confused people about this duplicate issue on the web.
