Can I put SEO keywords in a scrollable box at the bottom of my site?

My site need more keywords. There are one or two competitors of mine that currently have a scrollable text box at the bottom of their home page that features a few paragraphs of relevant literature full of keywords. Does anyone know if this is ok from an SEO point of view. Does google take a dim view of this sort of stuff or is it ok?

Please try and keep your answers as simple as poss guys as I know the world of SEO is EVER so complicated!.

No, i strongly advice you against this, it is clearly a case of keyword stuffing, which is against the guidelines of GWT. Following your competitors blindly when it comes to link building is a mistake that most of the webmasters make. See that you adopt only the legitimate strategies they use.

Scroll-able text not readable as is it hidden by the div tag. Better avoid.
