If you only need to save a few emails from Outlook 365, you can open the message and save it as an EML file where supported. The problem comes when you need to export hundreds or thousands of emails, because doing them individually gets tedious and it’s easy to miss attachments or folder structure.

I had a similar requirement and ended up using SysTools Office 365 Export Tool. It connects directly with the Microsoft 365 mailbox and lets you export emails in EML format in bulk. What I liked was that it preserved the email content and attachments, so I didn’t have to manually save each message.

For a large mailbox, I’d definitely consider an export tool rather than doing it one email at a time.
