How much detail should a local service website provide?

    Hi everyone,

I’m curious how much information people think a local service business should provide on its website before asking visitors to contact them.

For services where every project can be different, I think there is a balance between giving enough useful information and overwhelming visitors with long pages. Things like explaining the typical process, possible costs, project timelines, common problems, and examples of previous work can make a service page much more useful.

For example, someone searching for haus renovieren frankfurt probably wants more than a generic “we renovate houses” page. They may want to understand what is involved in planning a renovation, which parts of the property can be modernized, and what questions they should ask a contractor before starting.

I’ve found that pages answering these practical questions tend to be more helpful than pages that are mostly promotional copy.

What do you think works best for local service websites: detailed service guides, project case studies, FAQs, or a combination of all three?

Local Service Website Content and Structure

A local service website should provide enough information to clearly explain what you do, where you operate, why customers should trust you, and how they can contact you.

    1. Homepage vs. Service Pages
    Homepage

The homepage should work like an elevator pitch and navigation map for your business.

    It should include:

A clear headline describing your service and location
A brief summary of your core services
Key benefits or reasons to choose your business
    Links to individual service pages
A prominent call to action, such as “Request a Free Estimate” or “Book Online”
    Individual Service Pages

Each important service should have its own dedicated page.

Aim for approximately 400–800 words per service page, covering:

    What the service involves
    How your service process works
    Key benefits for customers
Why customers should choose your business
    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Relevant examples, projects, or case studies
    A clear call to action
    2. Essential Trust and Detail Elements
    Clear Business Information

Make your Name, Address, and Phone Number (NAP) clearly visible, particularly in the website footer and on a dedicated Contact Us page.

    Service Areas

Clearly list the neighborhoods, cities, suburbs, or regions you serve. Avoid making customers search through the website to determine whether you operate in their area.

    Social Proof

    Build credibility by showcasing genuine:

    Client testimonials
    Customer reviews
    Ratings
    Industry certifications
    Professional memberships
    Relevant trust badges
    Calls to Action (CTAs)

Make it easy for visitors to take the next step. Include prominent, mobile-friendly CTAs such as:

    Book Online
    Request a Free Estimate
    Get a Quote
    Call Now
    Contact Us

Place CTAs on every major page, particularly service pages, so visitors can contact you without having to search for your contact information.
