    Hey robwilley

Electronic business methods enable companies to link their internal and external data processing systems more efficiently and flexibly, to work more closely with suppliers and partners, and to better satisfy the needs and expectations of their customers.

    E-business
utilizes computers, available technology and telecommunications to run businesses. E-business can be thought of as the umbrella over e-commerce. E-business encompasses day-to-day operations, as well as managing information and maintaining accurate business records. While any business can take advantage of the tools available through e-business, e-commerce directs all its tools toward one specific purpose &selling items online.

    E-Commerce
E-commerce utilizes many different ways to sell items. Online auction sellers such as eBay allow the user to set initial bids on items, the time period of the bids and proposed shipping methods. Auction sellers always collect a predefined percentage of the sale. Many large chains such as Target and Walmart offer retail online shopping to customers. For sellers on a small budget, osCommerce offers open-source online shopping carts, with little or no cost for the seller. Both online gambling and gaming fall under the e-commerce category.

E-Commerce and E-Business are two completely different terms but unfortunately they are always used interchangeably by many of us. The reason behind this lies in the meanings of "business" and "commerce" in English language. But there is a difference between e-commerce and e-business.

E -business and e-commerce are terms that are sometimes used interchangeably, and sometimes they're used to differentiate one vendor's product from another. But the terms are different, and that difference matters to today's companies.
In both cases, the e stands for "electronic networks" and describes the application of electronic network technology - including Internet and electronic data interchange (EDI) - to improve and change business processes.

    E-Commerce Definition
E-commerce is “any transaction completed over a computer-mediated network that involves the transfer of ownership or rights to use goods and services,” defines the U.S. Census Bureau. Transactions aren't required to have a price and include both sales and items like free downloads. E-commerce includes transactions made on the internet, Intranet, Extranet, World Wide Web, by email and even by fax.
    E-Business Definition
E-business is broader than e-commerce; including the transaction based e-commerce businesses and those who run traditionally but cater to online activities as well. An e-business can run any portion of its internal processes online, including inventory management, risk management, finance, human resources. For a business to be e-commerce and e-business, it must both sell products online and handle other company activities or additional sales offline.

E-business is more about making great products, brainstorming and giving quality service, planning about product exposure and executing it.

Electronic commerce (also referred to as EC, e-commerce or ecommerce) consists primarily of the distributing, buying, selling, marketing, and servicing of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks. The information technology industry might see it as an electronic business application aimed at commercial transactions. It can involve electronic funds transfer, supply chain management, e-marketing, online marketing, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange (EDI), automated inventory management systems, and automated data collection systems. It typically uses electronic communications technology such as the Internet, extranets, e-mail, e-books, databases, catalogues and mobile phones.
E-business is more than just e-commerce. It involves business processes spanning the entire value chain: electronic purchasing and supply chain management, processing orders electronically, handling customer service, and cooperating with business partners. Special technical standards for e-business facilitate the exchange of data between companies. E-business software solutions allow the integration of intra and inter firm business processes. E-business can be conducted using the Web, the Internet, intranets, extranets, or some combination of these.

E-commerce covers outward-facing processes that touch customers, suppliers and external partners, including sales, marketing, order taking, delivery, customer service, purchasing of raw materials and supplies for production and procurement of indirect operating-expense items, such as office supplies.
