I'm trying to decide between putting one on a patio, decking, or directly on a level garden area. Does the surface make much difference to stability, and is it better to keep the chair somewhere sheltered from wind?
Jumping in on this older post… I had the same worry about wind and stability. From what I've seen, a level garden area with firm soil works best if you anchor the base well Patio and decking can shift or scratch. Sheltered spot is smart, but make sure it's not too enclosed Have you considered a weighted base?
For stability, placing your hanging chair on level ground is key; decking can work if the planks are secure, but patios offer the firmest base. Sheltered spots reduce wind rocking. I got my own from egg chair outdoor and the water-resistant cushions handle light rain perfectly, even on my patio.
