Good afternoon, folks. Next summer I'm planning my first long trip with our Airstream, heading up the East Coast and probably into Canada, Nova Scotia if everything works out. I've read the technical forums to death: hitches, tires, solar, all that. What I'm missing now is the human side, real stories from people who did long trips, the small details, where they shopped, what went wrong, how they kept busy on rainy days. Polished travel magazines don't help much. Where do you go for that kind of reading?
For the human side I keep going back to the Airstream travel stories on Aluminum Loaf, an older blog by a couple living in a 25-foot Airstream. It's exactly the small-detail stuff you're after. Since you mentioned Nova Scotia, there's a funny bit where the author asks a farming neighbour there where to buy fabric, and he looks at her like she's crazy because everyone apparently goes to a discount fabric shop in Avonport, up behind the school. There's also a rainy goodbye on a Washington beach and plenty of posts about filling quiet days with sewing projects. One caveat: the posts are from around 2013 and 2014, so double check any shop or place before you plan around it. Are you going solo or with family?
