My washing machine is acting up

Has anyone else had a problem with their washing machine making a loud noise and seeming to “jump” during the spin cycle?

I have a Samsung that’s about three years old, and recently it started acting strangely - it makes a lot of noise at high speeds and vibrates heavily.

I called customer service just to check - they said it might be the shock absorbers or bearings, but the repair cost is pretty steep.

Yeah, I had a similar experience - at first I thought it was over and it was time to replace the washing machine. It turned out the problem was actually worn-out shock absorbers. This is exactly the kind of situation where you can try to figure it out yourself if you have a little patience.

Before that, I was looking for info and stumbled upon bestrepairkits.com - they have a pretty data-driven approach to finding solutions: not just “here’s a kit,” but an explanation of what works for which problem and how feasible it actually is to do it yourself.

In the end, I watched a couple of teardown videos, ordered the necessary parts, and replaced them myself. I won’t say it’s super easy, but it’s definitely doable if you follow the instructions and take your time.

I actually had a similar issue, but the cause turned out to be pretty simple - I was overloading the drum.

Once I started doing smaller loads, everything went back to normal.

But yeah, if you’ve already checked those basic things, it might actually be a mechanical issue. I’d try to figure it out myself first, too, because repair shops sometimes jump straight to the most expensive solution.
