No doubt, the second option is better than the first one. By submitting articles to top 20 article directories you can drive traffic by two sources. One is from article directories itself and the other source are the websites or blogs who share your article on their site or blog including your bio.

Search engine always prefer for fresh content, so i will go for second option. If you write the same article try to do some changes in the article so that it looks unique to the search engines.

Single article content which is unique can be submitted to 20-30 article sites and as well if you have more article with unique content divide the article website and distribute the articles among those sites.The most important thing in article submissions is that there is chance to get a hyper link for a keyword in the content or author biography.Before doing article submissions, do some research on how the articles are submitted to the articles sites in the area of your business.
